Top 5 Critical Actions for Homeowners During a Re-Roofing Project

  • Clear Your Driveway

    • Why: Please ensure your driveway is clear of vehicles, toys, and outdoor equipment before our crew arrives. This allows easy access for materials and tools, helping us work efficiently and reducing the risk of accidental damage to your property or vehicles during the re-roofing project. Note: During the project, you will not have access to the interior of your garage from the outside.

  • Turn Off Your Irrigation System

    • Why: Roofing construction can result in debris and dust that could clog or damage your irrigation heads and pipes. Additionally, water from the irrigation system can create slippery conditions, posing a hazard for the workers. Temporarily disabling the system will also prevent accidental water damage to roofing materials and tools. Make sure to inform the roofing crew about the location of your irrigation controls and pipes to avoid any unintentional damage.

  • Secure Your Pets

    • Why: When your roof is being worked on, it’s essential to secure your pets to ensure their safety and well-being. The noise and activity can cause significant stress and anxiety for animals, leading to erratic behavior or attempts to escape. To minimize risk, keep pets indoors in a quiet, secure room away from the construction area.

  • Interior Precautions

    • Why: We kindly ask you to remove or secure any delicate items, pictures, or china from walls, especially on the second floor. The vibrations from our work reverberate through the walls and could potentially cause these items to fall, and we want to avoid any accidents.

  • Turn Off and Secure Pool Equipment

    • Why: When your roof is being worked on, it’s crucial to secure your pool equipment to protect it from damage and debris. Construction activities can generate dust, nails, and other materials that might fall into your pool or damage the equipment. Cover your pool and equipment with sturdy tarps or pool covers to prevent contamination and potential mechanical issues.

  • Attic Debris & Care

    1. Why: During the roofing process, the continued vibration may cause splinters of wood from decking boards to fall in the attic. This is normal and we ask you to please protect or remove any items you have stored in the attic.

The checklist below provides a complete and comprehensive guide to ensure the safety and peace of mind for you and your family throughout the re-roofing process:

¤ Re-Roofing Process

Re-roofing is inherently a messy and vibrant endeavor.Debris and nails will naturally surround the structure during this process. Our crews will diligently tarp and safeguard your landscaping and property.

¤ Noise Considerations

Given the volume of the roofing work, we advise arranging a temporary stay for any noise-sensitive household members or pets to ensure their comfort.

¤ Interior Precautions

We kindly ask you to remove or secure any delicate items, pictures, or china from walls, especially on the second floor. The vibrations from our work reverberate through the walls and could potentially cause these items to fall, and we want to avoid any accidents.

¤ Attic Debris & Care

During the roofing process, the continued vibration may cause splinters of wood from decking boards to fall in the attic. This is normal and we ask you to please protect or remove any items you have stored in the attic.

¤ Weather

Due to the unpredictability of weather, the work on your property may be delayed. Our number one priority is to protect the inside of your home from water. We will not begin your project if there is a chance of rain.

¤ Scheduling

In addition to weather, other factors outside of our control may also cause a delay. The installation date you are given is our best estimate and subject to change. We will promptly communicate any changes in the schedule to you.

¤ Work Hours and Home Protection

Our working hours are tailored to the seasons. In cooler months, we might start later in the morning to allow any frost to melt, while in the heat, we’ll begin early to capitalize on the cooler temperatures. Working late into the evening as long as we have daylight available can also occur. Should you have any requests regarding our working hours, please let us know.

¤ Clean-Up

Although we pride ourselves on a thorough clean-up after each workday, a few stray nails or bits of debris might remain. While we strive for perfection, we will never get every single nail, and appreciate your understanding.

¤ Lawn Preparation

Please cut your grass prior to the arrival of our crew. This makes the clean-up process and collection of nails easier to see and pick up. While we run a magnet and metal detector over your grounds to pick up the nails, it doesn’t work well with high grass. If you can’t have the lawn mowed 72hrs prior to the project start date let us know and we’ll have it done for you at a nominal cost.

¤ Materials

All materials delivered to the job are the property of Cupcake Home Improvements. We order extra materials to ensure we can complete the job. Any

leftover material will be picked up in a timely manner; please do not take or dispose of any leftover materials yourself. Materials are typically delivered in the driveway. If your driveway has had any structural issues in the past, let us know so we can take extra precautions to avoid damage. Although rare, the weight of the truck has the potential to crack an already weakened driveway. Materials and dumpsters/trailers typically arrive at different times. Please make sure any vehicles or items are removed from the garage/ driveway 24-48 hours before materials, dumpsters, trailers, etc. are scheduled to arrive and park where you will have the ability to move your vehicle.

¤ Turn off and secure pool equipment

When your roof is being worked on, it’s crucial to secure your pool equipment to protect it from damage and debris. Construction activities can generate dust, nails, and other materials that might fall into your pool or damage the equipment. Cover your pool and equipment with sturdy tarps or pool covers to prevent contamination and potential mechanical issues.

¤ Secure your pets

When your roof is being worked on, it’s essential to secure your pets to ensure their safety and well-being. The noise and activity can cause significant stress and anxiety for

animals, leading to erratic behavior or attempts to escape. To minimize risk, keep pets indoors in a quiet, secure room away from the construction area.

¤ Turn off your irrigation system

Roofing construction can result in debris and dust that could clog or damage your irrigation heads and pipes. Additionally, water from the irrigation system can create

slippery conditions, posing a hazard for the workers. Temporarily disabling the system will also prevent accidental water damage to roofing materials and tools. Make sure to inform the roofing crew about the location of your irrigation controls and pipes to avoid any unintentional damage.

¤ Our Pledge for Ongoing Communication

We will notify you to coordinate material delivery. While we aim to provide ample notice, sometimes it may be on very short notice. If the proposed delivery doesn’t suit your schedule, call us and we’ll do our best to coordinate a better day.

¤ Satellite Dish

If you have a satellite dish on your roof, we will have to remove it to install your new roof. We will reinstall the dish in the same location and attempt to position it at the correct angle. However, a fine-tuning service call from your satellite provider might be needed to ensure your TV reception is crystal clear.
